David Torres
VISUAL ARTIST

My work is a portrayal of a future ruin, where the viewer inhabits the future trying to decode our current thinking. I tell stories through contrasts using elements from various cultures, subcultures, and traditions to achieve a contemporary kitsch aesthetic, consciously exploring symbolism. Through my work, I address political issues such as colonization, double standards, violence, racial segregation, corruption, religious questioning, and ancestral knowledge. As a born sculptor, I use descriptive and narrative processes to create different figures, which I connect through observation exercises during my travels. This process, known as "the suitcase of cultural artifacts," generates totally coherent stories and creates installations that change their meanings as I configure new art exhibitions.. My strong interest in ceramics, inherited from my family, deeply influences my artistic process, and my exposure to diverse experiences as a resident in Bogotá and Berlin has further influenced my artistic perspective.
